It's great when my fondness for wine and getting the most out of my spending come together in novel ways. Consider the Seated app. Though it has been floating around the app universe for a bit, it was not top of my mind until last week when I used it for the first time. The general premise is that you use Seated to make reservations at any number of great restaurants, and are rewarded with gift card credit to Amazon and Lyft. Consider it a sort of universal point earning opportunity that is available across a range of establishments.

Last week, for example, I booked a reservation for eight at Joselito - Casa de Comidas (incidentally, my absolute favorite restaurant in Washington, DC). You can make a reservation for one or more people, but in this case Seated offered a $50 Amazon or Lyft credit (my choice) should we spend $250, which was pretty manageable with eight guests out celebrating a birthday.
These rewards are, of course, in addition to anything you are earning on your credit card. For example, paying that $250 tab with your Chase Sapphire Reserve card will net you 750 points, equal to $11.25 towards future air travel ($250 * 3x points per dollar / 100 * 1.5x travel redemption bonus through Chase = $11.25). Add that to the $50 gift card and you're coming out (in this case) with an incredible 24.5% return on your fine dining experience.
Of course, not all cities and not all restaurants are covered, so you'll have to use the app to find your next table. I notice any number of familiar names on the DC list though, including Georgia Brown's, Bodega in Georgetown, and Hamilton. Maps inside the app highlight other great restaurants throughout thirteen (and counting) great American cities from Boston to Miami to Los Angeles to Seattle (close as I can get to the four corners).
